Explaining Ethical Search Engine Optimization: White Hat SEO vs. Black Hat SEO
I found this letter in my archieves and thought it might help answer questions about search engine optimization if readers had any questions. Just so you know, personal details have been omitted to protect the innocent):
You’re wondering what is search engine optimization? Well, only the best thing ever…. I’m kidding of course.
Search engines and social networking are the two primary ways people are interacting on the web and discovering new information. Search engine optimization involves helping move companies toward the top of search engines and getting found by customers online at the exact time they are looking for you. It also involves getting companies to pay more attention to a range of key web metrics, so they can strategically focus their web efforts. You add a side of strategic content development for customers and connecting companies and executives to influentials for online pr. And you top that off by providing smart and budget conscious recommendations for key services for maximum return and success.
Just so you know, search engine optimization is divided into white hat seo and black hat seo methods. White hat being the ethical variety (creating great content, creating relationships, and generally adding to the community) and contrarily black hat the much, much less ethical version (spamming, cloaking, link farms, buying lots of links).
